India Pre Medical Pre Dental entrance examination

CBSE - All IndiaPre Medical Pre Dental entrance examination (AIPMT)

CBSE in compliance to a directive issued by the Supreme Court of India has initiated an entrance examination for students keen on undergoing further education on medical and dental studies. The AIPMT is conducted for the exclusive purpose of obtaining required 15% merit position to undertake advance studies in Indian medical and dental colleges. CBSE will be conducting this examination according to the Supreme Court directive and will follow all rules and regulations declared by the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family. CBSE will change current curriculums or modify examination structure from time to time as per further directions issued by the Government of India and the relevant ministry.

What is the structure of AIPMT?

AIPMT is structured on a two tier examination paper level with a preliminary and final examination.

Preliminary examination

It will be a single paper containing 200 questions presented in the objective manner. All questions are in the multiple choice mode in subjects of Chemistry Physics, Biology, Zoology and Botany. Students should only attempt all answers in the provided answer sheet using a ball point pen in either blue or black color. The total duration for the examination will be 3 hours.

 

Final Examination

It is also a single paper consisting 120 objective manner questions. The final examination could only be taken by students who pass the preliminary examination with satisfactory results. All questions are in the multiple choice mode in subjects of Chemistry Physics, Biology, Zoology and Botany. Students should only attempt all answers in the provided answer sheet using a ball point pen in either blue or black color. The total duration for the examination will be 3 hours.

 

Language for AIMPT

Students could select either English or Hindi language when undertaking AIMPT examination. However, CBSE will not consider any changes requested by students once their application form is forwarded to the Board for approval.

Eligibility criteria for AIMPT

  • The student should be at least 17 years or more at the time of examination admission or alternatively complete the age specification on or before 31st December in the year the student will be considered for admission in MBBS or BDS courses.
  • Should be of Indian nationality
  • While the minimum age limit is 17 the upper age limit is set at 25 years by 31st December of the year AIPMT examination will be held.
  • However a further 5 years relaxation of age will be allowed on the upper age limit for students applying from scheduled tribes, scheduled castes or other backward classes.
  • A student will only be allowed a maximum of 3 attempts to pass the entrance examination.

Andhra Pradesh and J&K states do not fall under all Indiascheme and therefore students from these areas will not be eligible to undertake this examination. Students from these areas who wish to undertake AIPMT examination should forward a valid affidavit attested by a First Class Judicial or a Metropolitan Magistrate and the proforma should be signed on an Rs 10/- stamp.
