History of CBSE
CBSE has achieved its most prestigious position, filling in a gap in educational niche today, through a path of sheer hard work and dedication. The Board has undergone major changes in the past to reach its present hiatus. In 1921, the governing body of CBSE was the UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education. Gwaliorand Rajputana in Central Indiawas under the jurisdiction of this board. After a lapse of 8 years, the Government of India considered a submission placed by the Government of United Provinces and formed a joint Board which was recognized as the Board of High School and Intermediate Education in Rajputana. The new Board comprised of Central India, Ajmer, Gwaliorand Merwara.
During the ensuing time period, the Board observed Indiaundergoing rapid development changes in structural facilities related to national education and a significant advancement of quality and efficiency in educational institutions of the country. With this latest development, the Board took into account the rapid growth and potential for expansion in secondary education systems in India. At this point of time however, the Board could not act further than its jurisdiction which was limited to Ajmar, Vindhya Pradesh and Bhopal. This was mainly due to establishment of a great number of State Boards and StateUniversitiesencompassing several geographical areas of the country.
The Board decided to expand their jurisdiction with an amendment to their constitution of the Board to extend jurisdiction limits within the country. This was the time when the Board adopted its present given name of Central Board of Secondary Education standing for CBSE. In 1962 the main Board was reconstituted.
