Educational endeavors of CBSE
Environmental education
The board has taken initiatives to disseminate educational activities through affiliated schools to familiarize and introduce students on the growing concerns of environmental hazards, degradation and other ecological imbalances. Schools are encouraged to form eco clubs to create awareness and sensitivity in fields of ecological based problems.
Value Education
CBSE has identified the value and importance in creating awareness in value education as a step towards negating all undesirable consequences due to socio technological advancements. CBSE with the aid of teachers and experts in value education field has created a set of common core values that will be introduced to students through their schools to ensure desired quality in education is maintained through out student school life.
Consumer Awareness
CBSE has published a guide on social commitment and improving awareness among students on quality matters. The publication has been developed with the collaboration of VOICE. The intention is to provide exposure for students to help them in becoming empowered consumers.
Population Education
CBSE has made many efforts in integrating population education for students in many areas of day to day teaching activities. The curriculum will analyze the ecological imbalances, diminishing of natural energy resources and other socio cultural vital elements. Students will have a better understanding and learn to adopt small family norms as a result of this education.
Physical and health education
This is an innovative approach in physical and health science where CBSE intends to develop and build perfect integrated harmony between student mind, word and deeds. Alternatively it could be described as an accord reached in heart, head and hand. The Board has taken up many initiatives in this specter by arranging sports meets in cluster levels incorporating both regional and national levels.
Business mathematics
To encourage students to take up commerce based programs and courses at Senior Level studies; CBSE has introduced a need based curriculum for mathematics studies in the senior school level. The curriculum has provided options for both science based and commerce based courses.
Informatics Practices
The objective is to empower students with necessary skills and talents in use of computers. Effective professional manners introduced in handling computers will help students in facing their future with confidence and compatibility. The curriculum has integrated studies in modern software packages such as MS Windows, Electronic spread sheet, FoxPro, internet basic, intranet and handling web pages.
Generic vocational course
The board has introduced this new subject with the view of facilitating occupational competencies in a global context. Generic vocational teaching is introduced to students at senior school level. The CBSE competency guided curriculum will improve student self confidence and enhance entrepreneurial skills among students.
Alternatives to animal dissection
Some students who follow biology as a part of their study stream have shown great unwillingness to participate in the practical dissemination of animals to facilitate their study theory matters. To help such students CBSE has introduced a new concept with options in such practical studies and instead have provided supplementary material to help them understand the process and underlying principles.
Road safety education
The Board has set up collaboration projects with the Ministry of surface transport to educate students in road safety methods. Most affiliated schools have undertaken massive road safety projects as a part of this initiative by the CBSE.
Social science education and national solidarity
Indiais a multi linguistic, multi racial and multi religious country. Therefore solidarity and secularism are considered to be two top basic values that are always taken into consideration in developing curricular programs.
Science education and creativity
CBSE has introduced many illustrative activities to students in affiliated schools with the objective of inducing better quality in teacher learner process. It also hopes to stimulate inter personal interactions and scientific aptitude and attitudes in students. Towards this end students are encouraged to investigate uses of multi media tools and identify same as positive tools needed for creativity.
Future studies
CBSE hopes to provide an atmosphere encouraging open ended approaches and futuristic perspectives in students. The subject will include scope for student imagination, constructive activities in a range of study disciplines and enhance intellectual capacities.
CBSE Help line
Students undergo severe stress with the approaching of term end examinations and it has even become a social concern. CBSE wishes to help students overcome their stress levels and face examinations with a relaxed attitude. Towards achieving this purpose, the Board has established a help line which is manned by a team of experts, counselors and academicians who will be available to help students with their physiological stress factors and problems.
Teacher Training
CBSE recognizes the value of empowering teachers and coachers with effective guiding skills that will enable them to transmit curriculums in the most effective manner. Many training programs and workshops have been undertaken under the scheme of teacher training in the fields of computer sciences, mathematics, business studies, economics and communicative English. In addition CBSE also trains their in house teachers on new references, syllabus updates, latest innovations in methodologies and other evaluation aspects to keep abreast of changing curriculums and techniques in a global context.
Group for mathematics Olympiad
CBSE has conducted an examination for group mathematics Olympiad under the aegis of Higher Mathematics National Board. The objective in conducting this examination in 19 centers spread across the country is to enhance and promote excellence in mathematics studies in a national level.
Vocational Education
There are 36 vocational programs and courses conducted by CBSE to date. These courses are carried out at senior school level with the aim of promoting job focused and job linked programs to orient students in shaping up their future careers. The CBSE has taken many initiatives to this effect with the cooperation of relevant industries with the view of meeting emerging global demands.
Information technology related applications
Information technology is considered a vital and important educational knowledge for students today. Therefore, in order to meet specific engineering demands for professionals in information technology field CBSE has developed a new curriculum for information technology related applications to be undertaken as a vocational package at senior school level. The curriculum has been developed with inputs from experts in the software industry and it provides multi dimensional abilities to students in information technology field.
Interactive approaches in language studies
CBSE has successfully launched a project for disseminating knowledge of the English Language based on a student centered approach. The Board has also made arrangements to expand project capacities by including other languages such as Sanskrit, French etc.
In service training
CBSE strives in continuous training for in service teachers with the view of keeping up to date with changes and modifications of curriculum techniques and strategies. Teachers are thus trained on emerging methodologies, techniques, contents, references and other evaluation aspects.
Comprehensive and continuous evaluation
CBSE identifies and approves the concept for students need for growth in effective, cognitive and psychomotor domains. The Board is of the view that academic achievement of all students has to be complemented with simultaneous growth in such areas which would be a more effective approach in dealing with life time solutions. To this effect CBSE has evolved a Certificate of Achievement (COA) that takes in to account specific appraisal of students and augmented participation of relevant stake holders in reestablishing educational goals to match emerging trends of today.
Special adult literacy drive
Non formal systems for education and learning process are being considered as a significant and vital educational element and it is highly promoted by the National policies for education in the country. As a national educational board, CBSE is also committed in this concept and has initiated a special adult literacy drive. The concept is to involve in total the student and teacher forces of all affiliated schools to provide flexibility and diversity in educational activities. CBSE follows decentralized management concepts to reach out to the entire adult working population in the country as well as to accommodate weaker learners in the society.
Education standardization and quality
Aspects of quality and standardization have become major elements in the interests of trade with global economy today. Recognizing an educational niche in consumer education CBSE has attempted to disseminate knowledge on basic education about responsibilities, rights and legislation pertaining to consumer policies in other countries.
National/International representations
CBSE acts in the role of consulter in promoting and establishing various educational curriculums in educational bodies and other leading educational institutes in both national and intentional levels.
Foreign quality equivalence
The Board accepts and recognizes secondary stage qualifications represented in more than 65 international countries for student’s eligibility requirements in admission to affiliated schools in India. The same concept is followed in the 18 international affiliated schools located in a number of international counties
