Need for decentralization of CBSE
Due to the extensive jurisdiction and enormous number of affiliated schools that came under CBSE purview with latest amalgamation, the Board had to consider a decentralization process. CBSE with the view of ensuring an efficient functioning system created a network of regional offices. Such regional offices are located in various parts of the country. They are responsible for the undertaking of Board directed activities and executing board decisions with regard to all affiliated schools which are under their own geographical boundaries. Currently CBSA regional offices are located in Ajmer, Allahabad, Panchkula, Guwahati and New Delhi. Overseas schools falling under the jurisdiction of CBSA are monitored and coordinated by the regional office in New Delhi. However, the decision making body of the Board is based at CBSE head quarters and it continues to monitor and coordinate all activities in relation to regional offices. The regional offices are not vested with power of making management level decisions such as subjects pertaining to policy matters of the CBSE. Therefore regional offices are empowered to work independently on routine administration work, coordination with schools under their purview, examination arrangements on both pre and post basis.
