What is the current jurisdiction of CBSE?
The CBSE has achieved tremendous milestones since reconstitution and now has an extensive jurisdiction that goes beyond the national territories of the country. When CBSE was reconstituted in 1962, the Board underwent further amalgamation with Delhi Board of Secondary Education joining with the Central Board in operation at the time. With this latest amalgamation all educational institutes and colleges which were linked with Delhi Board were taken under the wings of the main Central body of CBSE. With change of time there were many other mergers to CBSE making it an apex educational body. The new additions included educational institutions, schools and colleges located in Andaman and Nicorbar islands, Union territoryof Chandigarh, State of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and latest additions such as Uttaranchal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh. The board has recorded distinct expansion in increasing their affiliated number of schools to a significant 8,979 as at 2007 from a mere number of 309 in 1962.
The current affiliated schools include a number of 141 educational institutions based in 21 countries. The 8979 affiliated schools include a mix of 1,761 government schools in the country, 5,827 independent or private schools, 897 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 480 Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalayas and 14 other Central Tibetan schools.
